From the second we arrived in Stowe, we immediately fell in love! This town is absolutely incredible in the fall with its brilliant foliage and cooler temperatures. And, most importantly, Stowe is as cozy as can be.
One thing I definitely recommend when planning your Vermont fall trip, is to plan your rental car reservations days (maybe even months) in advance! When Logan and I first arrived all the car rentals were gone! We ended up being VERY lucky and snagged one last second but we were freaking out at first.
Y’all, we seriously had no idea there were SO many amazing things to do in Stowe, Vermont!
Where to stay:
In Stowe, we highly recommend staying at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa.
Stoweflake was the perfect place for all of our adventures in and around Stowe for a long weekend. The resort is in the perfect spot right on the Mountain Road. You can easily walk to restaurants and coffee shops.
Our room had everything we needed and more! gas fireplace and private jacuzzi tub… YES PLEASE!
Stoweflake not only has an amazing indoor and outdoor pool area but they have an award-winning spa. You can treat yourselves to steam rooms, sauna, jacuzzi, and mineral baths.. My favorite part of the Stoweflake Spa is their Aqua Solarium, complete with a waterfall pool, which is modeled after the real Bingham Falls in the region.
Breakfast places:
Charlie B’s restaurant on the resort property
Café on Main in the village
Lunch & Dinner:
Charlie B’s
Idletyme
Piecasso – great pizza!
Ranch Camp
Things to do:
Horseback Riding– 10000000000% recommend horseback riding at Topnotch Stables. The one hour guided Trailrides offer a scenic trip through meadows, up and down rocky mountain trails and through crystal clear streams. Best $50 I have ever spent. (Bring cash they don’t accept cards) My horse was named Moose and it was love at first sight! I wish I would have taken him home with me haha!
The rec path– a paved path that winds over bridges through the woods and fields, it streaches from the village up toward the mountain 5.5 miles one way – you can walk along it or rent a bike next door, stoweflake is right in the middle of the path and you can access it across the street. We rented a tangent bike and it was one of our favorite memories from the trip!
Toll Road– normally you can drive to the top of mount Mansfield the views are spectacular. Sadly the road was closed during our trip but we ended up hiking Toll Road for several miles. The fall foliage was amazing!
The notch road – if you drive up toward the mountain past the ski resort the road becomes narrow and steep there is a place to park and walk around at the top, there are a bunch of big boulders and some caves to explore.
Gondola ride to the top of Vermont
Bingham waterfall – a beautiful 25 foot waterfall, just a short walk from the parking area off of route 108 (aka “the mountain road”) you can google the location it’s just a few miles up the road from stoweflake (just be careful the path can get slippery!)
Shopping! Stowe has a bunch of cute shops in the village (country store on main, shaws general store, stowe mercantile , the boutique) and right around Stoweflake (green envy, stowe kitchen bath & linens)
Laughing moon chocolates – delicious local chocolate! (located in the village)
Cold hollow cider – this is a in-between the town of stowe and waterburry on route 100 – they have amazing cider donuts and it is filled with great local products
Pinnacle trail –If you are looking for a great hike check this out. Its short and steep and has amazing views at the top!
Breweries/cideries (alchemist, idletyme, stowe cider)
Ben & Jerry’s- Tour the original factory
Experiencing Stowe, Vermont in the fall is dreamier than I could have ever imagined. I hope it has inspired you to plan your own trip because personally I can not wait to go back!
